Habitat Day as We Move Towards World Homeless Day
As I will cover homelessness or people who are unhoused next week, I won’t dive too much into the lack of housing for our current population in the community of the Comox Valley and its surrounding municipalities, but I did want to touch on this UN-declared day dedicated to the needs for all people to have a place to call home. Although we have the power to provide everyone a home, it just isn’t happening around the globe.
World habitat Day is honored every first Monday of October. A worthy date as we see ourselves slipping into colder weather. There is a dire need for more warming shelters as our population grows and the unhoused grows alongside it.
World Space Week :: Women in Space
This week is World Space Week… So what does that have to do with health? Not a whole lot to be honest with you, but it was an interesting topic that came across my desk. I could likely find a link between space and our health, likely diving into the hormones that are released when we walk in the dark under the moon light, watching the stars in the sky. I know you can sense the feeling that trickles down your body on those cold yet calm nights. Or the excitement you may have felt during the recent bout of aurora borealis!
I digress, October 4th through 10th is World Space Week. Last year’s theme was “Satellites Improve Life,” under which more than 6,500 events were organized amongst 60 different countries. This year’s week carries the theme “Women in Space!” This year’s theme already has 4,744 events.
World Space Week provides us a little down time away from the reality that we are currently facing with the global pandemic that continues to invade every day of our lives. This week is a celebration of space and is actually a UN-recognized week.
